I have been knitting for over 50 years and am still learning, reading, and growing with my experience. The various websites out there that provide calculators are very useful but I still preferred learning to do these things myself so I could understand and practice the processes. I prefer Excel which belongs to Microsoft but there are open source spreadsheet programs that are as useable. Having said that, keeping the software updated and operating on a variety of platforms is a monster of an undertaking and is why I find these programs to be lacking. I have worked for a software ( not knitting) company for years and know the software cycle well, so am aware of the huge effort that goes into it.
